Title:Design of Microneedles Inspired by the Structural Mechanics of the Mosquito's Piercing Fascicle
Abstract:This study investigates the structural mechanics of the mosquito's piercing fascicle to provide a biomimetic framework for designing microneedles with enhanced functionality. A mechanical approach is applied to accurately determine the critical buckling loads of the fascicle, accounting for axial non-homogeneity. Using the power series method, the governing differential equation with varying coefficients is solved under clamped and freeend boundary conditions. The derived characteristic equation offers precise predictions of critical buckling loads, validated through comparisons with experimental data for both homogeneous and non-homogeneous structures. Additionally, the study analyzes the influence of labium support and axial gradient parameters, emphasizing the vital role of lateral support in ensuring structural stability. The findings contribute to the development of advanced microneedles for minimally invasive procedures and efficient drug delivery systems, addressing challenges relevant to veterinary and medical applications.
